North West Google European Command Eyes Caithness

With harnessing wave-energy is many sunnier climes being accompanied by certain risks, Internet-giant Google is reported in this week’s Caithness Courier to be investigating the Pentland Firth as a potential site for its newly-patened water-based data centres.

With the risk of Viking, and even Napoleonic attack being a distant memory, the Firth – receiving currents from the Atlantic Ocean and North Sea, with tides of up to 16 knots – should be well placed, and no need to install cables to ‘transmit’ the generated electrical energy across the country.
