Mum Might As Well Have Gone to Iceland

How very British. The former lighthouse-keeper’s cottage on Cape Wrath is now a private residence for John Ure and his family; and has been converted to an eight-seater café called Café Ozone. Open 24 hours a day (except when MoD artillery testing takes place), this is a café at the end of the universe where a cuppa always is guaranteed.

As difficult as it has been for me to walk around Thurso, with ice from the snow-falls during the weekend before Xmas still thick, spare a thought for the Kay Ure. On 19 December, she embarked on a planned shopping trip to Inverness and to purchase the Xmas turkey, only for the snows to start soon after she left.

For the past 15 days, she has been unable to return home, and staying in a friend’s caravan in Durness, and doubts she will reach home again for several more days.
