Viewfirth Redevelopment Steering Group in Thurso Calls It a Day

I wrote previously about resumed interest in re-establishing a community and social centre on the site of the old Dounreay Sports and Social Club in Thurso.

After the levelling of the building in 2006, as well as the redevelopment of the town hall as Caithness Horizons, Thurso had had little more than the Royal British Legion building for social space.

Unfortunately, this week’s John o’Groat Journal reports that committee meetings have decided that plans should be shelved in view of current economic circumstances.  Suggestions have been made that the site could be sold to raise funds for other community projects, such as a cinema; although the former All Star Factory premises remain available, if stuck between the desires of its current and reality of planning permission.
