False Economy in the Maritime and Coastguard Agency Tug Service

Following the anouncement of the Comprehensive Spending Review in late 2010, I wrote about the plans to scale-back the Maritime and Coastguard Agency’s emergency tug service.  This was to include the Anglian Prince, which only just had been involved in the emergency operations following the grounding of the HMS Astute and MV Red Duchess.  She now has been sold, and as of today only one coastguard tug remains: the Anglian Sovereign which covers the Orkney and Shetland area.

From midnight today, she too will be gone… days after being summoned to Uist to escort the MV Flinterspirit which had ran aground.
